"We wanted the new offices to be warm and inviting, not only to increase employee
satisfaction, but also to appear as a nontraditional government space," says the
officer in charge of the new facilities. "But of course, as stewards of the public
dollar, we also wanted to stay within our budget."
Finally, as recent history demonstrated, TRICARE Regional Office needed furniture
that was adaptable to sudden change.
With help from the General Services Administration, the TRICARE Regional Office
identified three potential furniture suppliers, then chose Kimball Office products
for their appearance and long-term value.
The Kimball Office Solution
Today, the space includes 41 Xsite and Footprint work stations, plus private offices
with Osterley Park, Change and Definition casegoods in Honey Maple and Amber Cherry.
A light neutral palette with plenty of glass welcomes and enhances the view. Several
lines of Kimball Office seating help employees perform efficiently and comfortably.
In the conference room, a boat-shaped table nods whimsically (but functionally)
to the maritime view of Navy ships in the harbor.
What do employees think of the new space? "I've heard all the pleasant adjectives,
'wonderful,' 'awesome,' 'gorgeous,' 'outstanding,'" says the officer in charge of
the new facility, and added, "It's likely the nicest office I'll probably ever have
during my career."”
As for functionality, he notes, "It's hard to quantify, given that we have a whole
new mission. But employees are working very long hours, and getting lots of work
done in comfort — with no complaints about the space."
"All in all, I'm overwhelmingly pleased."
